Let Freedom Ring!

The 4th of July is one of our favorite holidays, and this one was pretty typical as far as our activities went!
On Friday, Kevin and our neighbor Mark headed out on Mark's boat for some male bonding (cough) and lake time. Mark's wife, Becca and I hung out by the pool with the kids and then we rounded all of us up to watch fireworks over Lake Conroe. We pulled together sub sandwiches, and everyone ate outside as we waited for the sun to set and the fireworks to get started. Samuel was spending some special time at Grammy camp, for his first LONG trip away from us and we missed him horribly, especially during the fireworks that he loves so much. We had some other friends meet up with us, so a crew of about 16 hung out by the lake and enjoyed the fireworks display.

Saturday morning, Kevin headed into work bright and early, and the kids and I put the final touches on our golf cart and prepared for the neighborhood parade. We have done this parade for the last 3 years, and have watched it grow from only golf carts, bikes and Power Wheels, to a large parade complete with color guard, fire engine, World War II veterans, antique cars and everything else in between! We lined up together with our friends and the kids all enjoyed riding in the parade together and throwing candy out to the watchers.

We relaxed and cooled off after the parade - it felt like it was 110 degrees out! Kevin got home in the afternoon and headed back out onto the lake while some of Jacob and Hannah's friends came over to swim. We ended up with neighbors at our house, cooking out, shooting fireworks, swimming and just enjoying the holiday. Kevin put on one of his great (although tame) fireworks shows, and the rest of the crew enjoyed all of the novelty firecrackers in the driveway. We had a great 4th of July! We hope you did too!
