The Patriots

I have quite a bit to blog about. But for a moment, I just want to focus on today.

7 years ago, I sat in my living room, speechless as Katie Couric took a call from an NBC employee that was walking her daughter to school on the streets of New York. The call was being played live. Whatever else she was saying about the first plane that had already hit the WTC was interupted byher newest concern.

"What's that sound? Is that another one? It sounds like another plane. You just don't hear the sound of planes in the city. Is that another plane?"

That may not be exact, but it is very close to the words this woman spoke as she searched, in panic, for what was causing that "sound". And she was right. It was plane number 2 flying directly into the other building of the WTC. I was in shock as was the rest of America...the rest of the world.

So, for months...years even...we wore our American flag pins. We wore our ribbons. We held our heads high and flew our flags. We volunteered for the Red Cross, and gave donations and sent package after package of items to those in need in NYC. From across the nation, fire fighters, police officers and other first responders headed to NYC to dig through the rubble for victims, alive and dead. We searched - for many different things, but all of us ultimately searched for why.

And seven years later, we have Patriots' Day. A day to honor the fallen of September 11, 2001. Those in NYC, those at the Pentagon, the heroes on the fallen plane that went down in Pennsylvania and let's not forget those that continue to fight terrorism every day, both here and overseas.

But what do we do on the other days? Are we still holding our heads high and remembering to help our fallen brother, or brother in need? Don't get lax. Don't forget the things we learned on 9/11. And don't let those fallen heroes have died in vain. We are America. One nation under God. Indivisible. After all, if God is with us, who can be against us?

Michelle - That post cracks me up. We are still working on peepee in the potty and bribe Olivia with M&Ms to just sit on the potty in hopes of peepee. Reading your post, I'm wondering what we will have to do for poopoo since we have already used the chocolate bribe! Congrats and WAHOOO for Jacob!
